Scat: The 31 Card Game

App Store link coming soon.

The classic card game played against a table of cats.

Three cards each, one suit that counts, and 31 to aim for. No ads, no in-app purchases, nothing to sign up for. Open it and play a hand.

A game of Scat on an oval of green felt: three painted cats around the table, the deck and the discard pile in the middle, and the player's three cards along the bottom, with the player's own crowned tabby under them and a Call Scat button beside them.
Your turn: draw, take the discard, or call Scat.

How it plays

Everybody gets three cards. Count the points in your best suit — aces are 11, faces and tens are 10, and the rest are their number — and try to get as close to 31 as you can. On your turn, draw from the deck or take the top discard, then let one card go.

Call Scat

When you think your hand isn’t the lowest at the table, call Scat instead of drawing. Everybody else gets one more turn, and then every hand turns face up on the table. The lowest hand takes a strike.

Make 31 and the hand ends on the spot: everyone else takes a strike. Three strikes and you’re out, and the last one in wins.

The end of a hand: each cat's three cards face up on the table with its total beside its name, one total marked in red for the strike, and a small dialog in the middle saying who scatted, who was lowest, and a Next Hand button.
Every hand ends face up, with each hand’s total. A red total takes the strike.

A table of cats

Play against one to five cats, each with its own painted portrait, its own story, and its own way of playing: bold, patient, watchful, a collector, or careful. They draw, take, and call Scat for themselves. Tap a cat at the table to meet it, or open Meet the cats to see all forty. Any you’d rather not play can be switched off.

Make cats of your own to play against, each with a name, a look, and a play style, and trade them with friends as a file.

Make your own cat

Give yourself a name and a cat: the ears, coat, markings, eyes, nose, and whiskers, plus a crown, a bow, glasses, or a party hat. Your cat sits at the table over your name, like every other cat, shows up when you win, and comes with you to your other devices through iCloud.

House rules

There is no gambling of any kind: no chips, no wagers, nothing to buy. A lost hand costs a strike.

Learn it in seventeen pages

New to 31? How to play walks through the game in seventeen short pages, using real cards. Tap ? at the top left of the table to open it any time, without ending your game.

After the game

When one player is left, look back at every hand: who scatted, what everyone held, and who took the strike. Save or share it as a PDF. Tap the trophy for your statistics: wins, win rate, best streak, and who wins most at your table.
